Jesus' Boyhood Home
When you first come to Nazareth, especially after touring the pastoral countryside of Galilee, you may be very surprised to be greeted by a big, bustling city! Jesus home town was but a tiny village, as you know from Luke 4: 22, when Jesus read from Isaiah in synagogue and everyone knew who he was. Still, as you tour Nazareth, you'll find authentic experiences of Jesus' day to remember and treasure.
as you tour Nazareth, you'll find authentic experiences of Jesus' day to remember and treasure.Head for the spring, where Mary and the other women drew their water every day of their lives. A church stands over it now, one of dozens built by Christians who faithfully kept the ancient traditions alive and welcome Christian pilgrimage tours. Visit the magnificent Basilica of the Annunciation, where tradition says the Angel Gabriel spoke to Mary, and peer down into the caves that were the basements of the homes of Jesus' day. At Nazareth Village you'll find modern Nazarenes in period clothing, recreating for you the sowing and reaping, weaving, spinning, bread-baking and all the other aspects of daily life in a home like the one Mary and Joseph made for their family. In Nazareth you'll find time marches on, but the memory of the sacred never fades.
