Tour Elon Moreh:
Abraham's First Altar in the Holy Land
Your trip to Elon Moreh up towering Mount Kabir is one you'll always remember; it's a thrilling feeling to know that on this mountain Abraham sealed his bond to this land. Elon Moreh was the first place Abraham built an altar, and there God told him: "To your offspring I will give this land" (Gen 12:7).
In touring Samaria and driving through modern Elon Moreh, you'll see people who walk every day in the footsteps of the patriarchs and the matriarchs. On the mountaintop, that experience will be yours, too.
Above it are Mount Gerizim, mount of blessings... and Mount Ebal, mount of curses (Deut. 11:29).When you tour Elon Moreh, take in the breathtaking view below: biblical Shechem, modern-day Nablus, site of Joseph's tomb and of Jacob's Well, where Jesus met the Samaritan woman (John 4:4-29). Above it are Mount Gerizim, mount of blessings, sacred to the Samaritans (John 4:20-21) and Mount Ebal, mount of curses (Deut. 11:29).
As you head up to the "great tree of Moreh" (Gen. 12:6) on the summit, look north to the valley of Tirzah (Josh. 12:24; 1 Kings 16:23) and east across to Jordan River to Ammon and Gilead. You'll feel that sense not only of a physical ascent, but of the spiritual ascent that your Holy Land journey is all about.
